This Tuesday, the Bruin Beat traveled to the Lake Placid Conference Center to preferm for the Extension Homemakers. It was great opportunity for the students to get their feet wet in performing with each other. Below is a sneak peak of a part of their performance:
The students sang 3 group songs and 6 solos/small groups. They were professional, sang enthusiastically, and did a great job! I am very happy with the way they are coming together, singing out confidently, and communicating well with each other. Students who performed included Jaycob Kinder, Rachel Paquin, Jordan Elliott, Zoie Mann, Seth Mendez, Kara Slusser, Taylor McCaffery, and Ethan Henderson. A special thanks also to Mahala Matney, Zoie Mann, and Darci Robertson for creating the choreography for this song.
A choir that is really impressing me lately is the Bruin Experience. The confidence with which they are singing lately far exceeds where they finished the year last year. They are picking up their music so fast and really listening to each other to try to tune chords. Great job guys!
Another choir that has really stepped up lately is the 7th grade choir. Early in the year, many of the 21 boys in there were lacking to confidence to let their voices be heard. Now, many are more willing to sing out and it has really helped the sound of the group. The energy in the group is great, and their sound is starting to mature as they work on singing with proper vowel shapes.
Students of the Week:
8th Grade: Katelynn Willoughby - Has battled through illness and hardship to consistently have a great attitude in class. She sings out and helps lead the soprano each and every day.
7th Grade: Khaley Sills - Is a leader in the alto section and knows her part very well. She is focused in class and has a great attitude!
Bruin Beat: Darci Robertson - Has stepped as a senior leader this year and is singing out the alto part strongly and confidently. She also has helped with choreography and consistently brings energy when she dances.
Bruin Experience: Alena Lee - A strong singer and sight-reader, Alena helps to anchor the alto section. She hears music extremely well and has gotten much better at being consistently at the center of the pitch.
Bruin Belles: Madison Lightle - Has done a great job leading this year and brings a great attitude to class every day, despite having to sing Alto, Soprano I, and Soprano II. Her versatility and increased confidence have helped her become a leader this year in the Bruin Belles.
Students, if you have more comments on how you think choir is going this year, post them here! I would love to hear your thoughts. Check back next week for more updates!
